Super Munter Hitch TyingStart with a Munter Hitch. Pass the tail around the loaded end. Tuck a bight of the tail through the gate into the carabiner. Ease the tail (red arrow) to lower the load (black arrow).Super Munter (Double Munter) Hitch DetailsThe Super Munter Hitch is also known as the Double Munter and the Monster Munter. Like the plain Munter, it is possible to flip the knot to take in slack with the tail. However, the Super Munter requires a double flip and has too much friction to make this useful as a climbing knot. Uses: It is used in Search and Rescue to lower heavy loads. The extra friction from the added turn greatly reduces the force required to control the descent. It is not used in normal climbing because the plain Munter is more appropriate. Advantages: The Super Munter overcomes one of the problems with the plain Munter. The extra turn stops the knot introducing kinks and twists in the rope. Disclaimer: Any activity that involves ropes is potentially hazardous. Lives may be at risk - possibly your own. Considerable attention and effort have been made to ensure that these descriptions are accurate. However, many critical factors cannot be controlled, including: the choice of materials; the age, size, and condition of ropes; and the accuracy with which these descriptions have been followed.
